Huge update: files, better code editor and UI

Every week Bildy gets one or more small updates. This isn't one of them. After the launch, before summer holidays, we started creating this update based on the feedback we got. Instead or rushing it, we wanted to polish every little thing to create a rock solid update.

There are basically two updates, which both have big impact. First of all, old users will notice the new "files" tab in the header. You can now update and manage files straight from Bildy. Second, we refined the UI to be even more clear and helpful. It helps new users get up to speed using Bildy, and fits better for your workflow resulting in fewer problems. What you don't see, are all the countless improvements under the hood that make Bildy sites run better.

Here's a video of the major improvements.

Files

I personally love how seamlessly files come to Bildy. Uploading them is a breeze, renaming and arranging them in folders is just as easy as in your desktop.

To use files in my content, I can select the files from the files dialog, upload them form my computer. But what's really cool, is that I can just drag them from the file navigator and drop them on the control. I've been enjoying this feature a lot!

Another thing I really love, is that I can now edit CSS and JavaScript files straight in Bildy. Just double click on the file and code editor launches, make the changes and save. Couldn't be easier.

Files work in Bildy so well, that I haven't been using FTP-client at all.

B:tags panel

B:tags are great, but as any new thing, it takes time to learn them. Even for more experienced users (like me), remembering all the attributes and what they do is just too much to ask.

In code editor, you can now open B:tags panel on the right side. This lists all the B:tags, tells you what they do and shows all the attributes. First of all, this helps you get an idea of what you can do with B:tags. In addition, it speeds up your development work. Just click the tags to add them on your template.

When you do data queries with <b:get> from a certain data model, the B:tags panel will show you all the tags you can use inside that query –another great memory helper.

Refined UI

When you login to Bildy first time, you'll see instructions on how to get started on the welcome screen.

When you create new data models or templates, settings panel opens up right away. You can always access the settings from the left corner.

New site

Unrelated to this update, we just launched the redesigned web site. Our aim was to make everything more clear: easier navigation, easier on the eye, easier to understand.

You can now post comments or join the forum discussion without login, making it easier to communicate with us all.

All in all, we are really happy with these improvements. Many of these things are foundation for the future, but there are many benefits we can start enjoying right away.

What do you think? We're thrilled to hear your comments and feedback –as always.
